ImPrezi your students – by Jim Bee

Jim agreed to give Prizi a go and feedback to me on how it went. I didn’t know at the time he was going to use it for the first time in a class that was being observed, a brave move maybe but I think it paid off.  Here’s Jim’s review of Prezi.

Prezi – A change from death by PowerPoint!

Prezi is a new way of delivering lectures that are just a little bit different. Whilst prepping for an observation I thought I would give it a go and see if it made any difference to my lesson and the learners experience! Basically, Prezi works in the same way as PowerPoint but instead of having slides you have one big canvas to work on.  It is like having a big piece of paper and scribbling down your lesson points randomly on the paper. Once you have finished putting down your information all you need to do is to link all your information together in the order you want to view it. The basic  operation is that instead of slide after slide popping up the Prezi software “moves” your canvas around to each piece of information by zooming out from the last one and zooming in to the next one. My students liked the concept and the fact it was a different method of getting the information across. If you are being observed than you could also score some points by trying out new technology to enhance the learning experience!! Give it a go and see if it works for you.  www.prezi.com

Plus Points:

  • Youtube clips are embedded and play automatically.
  • It looks modern and different from PowerPoint
  • It is easy to use and manipulate
  • Your Presentations are stored on the Prezi website  but can also be downloaded

Minus points:

  • Difficult to Print off ( You can’t have 6 slides to a page like PowerPoint)
  • Need a bit of patience at first to get your head around font sizes etc
  • Novelty value will wear off if over done!
